Chrysoprase is a gem variety of Chalcedony that is a bright green color, which is caused by traces of nickel. Darker shades are also known simply as 'prase', and are a popular jewelry gem. It has a very distinctive, almost glowing color, and the Greeks associated it with the Goddess of Love, Aphrodite, as her sacred color was green. This crystal gets its name from a Greek word which translates to 'golden apple' or 'golden leek'.
